Hayley & Rowan: NYC Love Shoot

It was one of the coldest days NYC has seen this year, but that didn’t stop Hayley and Rown (coming from sunny Australia) from making the most of their trip to the US. They absolutely adore traveling and are probably the sweetest, happiest newlyweds I have ever met! It was a joy to spend a few hours with them even in the frigid temperatures. As you can see, Hayley has a constant smile on her face that would make anyone’s day turn bright. Rowan was such a gentleman and they were both great company. I was so thankful that they chose me to document a small part of their trip! Hayley and Rowan, I hope you come visit us again soon!

Buds of Spring Seen Thru Film

I’ll be completely honest. My biggest dream and goal as a photographer is to ultimately shoot film. My absolute favorite photographers of all time shoot exclusively film and my dream is to one day shoot solely film as well. Big problem: I’ve only used a professional film camera twice in my life! So I have lots to learn before I can ever use film at weddings. In my opinion, film has a totally different feel and texture from digital – one that is organic and where colors seem richer and truer to their real tones. And the best part is, once you learn to expose correctly on a film camera, there is almost no post processing needed! One of my goals for this year is to get lots more practice photographing with film. These are some photos from my very first “film experiment” on my dear friend Anca taken last spring with the Contax 645 film camera.

A Healthy…Dessert?

I’ve debated whether blogging about food would be appropriate and whether I could somehow tie it into weddings. Then it hit me that of course healthy foods are relevant to brides – what bride out there isn’t trying to get in the best shape possible for her wedding? And how great is it to know that you can satisfy your sweet tooth and nourish your body at the same time? I’ve recently been interested in incorporating more raw foods into my diet so as to increase my daily intake of nutrients. I stumbled across an amazing cook and photographer, Susan Powers, and decided to try a couple of her recipes. One that stood out to me was her recipe for chocolate mousse, which I was anxious to try after being pleasantly surprised at the list of ingredients including avocado, dates, almonds, and cocoa!

This is the final product. Mouth-watering, right? This is one dessert you can eat as much as you want of without feeling guilty!

I later added some fresh blueberries to balance the rich flavor. I’m sure strawberries, raspberries, and other fruits would be delicious as well!

I didn’t necessarily have all the items on hand at the time, but this recipe gave me a good excuse to start stocking up my kitchen with healthier alternatives that I’ll be able to use in future recipes as well.
